Measuring Guide

Q. How do I measure and record my cabinet door sizes to ensure my order is correct and my cabinet doors fit?

A. Amish Cabinet Doors builds your custom cabinet doors and drawer fronts to the exact size and specifications noted in your order. On the ordering page, you will be guided through the measurement process to ensure the cabinet doors you receive are exactly the size you need. The most common measuring mistake is failing to include your desired overlay into your measurements. The normal overlay for a cabinet door on a framed cabinet is 3/8" on each side when exposed hinges used. The normal overlay for a cabinet door on a framed cabinet is 1/2" on each side when hidden hinges are used. Please read our “Frequently Asked Questions” section for more information on measuring for doors or drawer fronts.

Our order process is as follows, so be sure to include all of the information requested below to ensure your cabinet doors meet your exact needs and specifications for use as kitchen cabinet doors, bathroom cabinet doors, or other replacement cabinet doors:

  1. Select your desired wood species: oak, maple, cherry, or hickory.
  2. Select the edge profile for the outside edge of your cabinet doors or drawer fronts.
  3. Select the edge profile for the inside edge of your cabinet doors or drawer fronts.
  4. Select the design desired for your raised panel doors or flat panel cabinet doors from our selection of cabinet door styles.
  5. Enter the desired width for your cabinet doors or drawer fronts (Amish Cabinet Doors manufactures doors and drawer fronts in 1/8" increments).
  6. Enter the desired height for your cabinet doors or drawer fronts (Amish Cabinet Doors manufactures doors and drawer fronts in 1/8" increments).
  7. Enter the quantity of cabinet doors you are ordering in this size, wood species, and design.
Properly Measured Custom Cabinet Doors by Amish Cabinet Doors

Q. How should I record my measurements when my cabinet doors will be mounted on framed cabinets with hidden hinges to ensure my measurements are correct?

A. First, determine the overlay of your hinges. The average overlay is 1/2", but hinges can be a minimum of 3/8" and a maximum of 1 9/16".

For a one-door cabinet, add the width of the opening PLUS the total of your two offsets together to get the proper ordering width of your cabinet door. Add the opening height PLUS desired overlay to obtain the proper ordering height of your cabinet door. For a two-door cabinet with no stile in the middle, only add ONE offset to the width of each cabinet door.

Q. How should I record my measurements when my cabinet doors will be mounted on framed cabinets with exposed hinges?

A. For a one-door cabinet, add 3/4" to the opening width and opening height. For a two-door cabinet with no center stile, add 3/4" to the opening width and divide by two for your cabinet door width. Add 3/4" to the opening height for your cabinet door height.

Q. How should I determine the width of my drawer fronts?

A. Normally, drawer fronts mounted over cabinet doors should be the same width as the cabinet door. However, some styles of drawer fronts may not follow this standard, so use your discretion in recording your measurements.
